Understanding Thyroid Pathophysiology Under Stress Conditions — Research Insights from Dr. Samira Yagubova

Advancing cancer research requires a deeper understanding of how tissues respond to complex biological stressors such as hypoxia and infection. At the 12th International Cancer, Oncology and Therapy Conference and Exhibition, we are honored to feature Dr. Samira Mamedhasan Yagubova, Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at Azerbaijan Medical University, Azerbaijan.

Dr. Yagubova will present her scientific poster titled: “Thyroid Gland Injury and Compensatory–Adaptive Mechanisms under the Combined Effects of Hypoxia and Infection.”

Exploring Tissue Response in Challenging Biological Environments

The thyroid gland plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism, cellular growth, and systemic homeostasis. Under conditions such as reduced oxygen supply (hypoxia) and infectious stress, significant structural and functional adaptations can occur within thyroid tissue. Understanding these responses is particularly relevant in oncology, where hypoxic tumor environments and inflammatory processes influence disease progression and treatment response.

Dr. Yagubova’s research investigates how the thyroid gland undergoes injury while simultaneously activating compensatory and adaptive mechanisms to maintain function. These findings contribute to broader insights into:

  • Cellular adaptation to hypoxic microenvironments

  • Interactions between infection, inflammation, and tissue remodeling

  • Mechanisms that may influence endocrine-related cancers

  • Pathophysiological pathways relevant to tumor biology and resilience

A Distinguished Career in Pathology and Medical Science

Dr. Yagubova completed her PhD at Azerbaijan Medical University and later earned the prestigious Doctor of Medical Sciences (DMSc) degree, reflecting her long-standing dedication to academic and clinical research. As an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology, she actively contributes to medical education, mentoring, and advancing investigative pathology.

Her extensive scholarly contributions include more than 100 publications in reputable journals and conference proceedings, underscoring her commitment to expanding scientific understanding across pathology and related biomedical fields.

Bridging Fundamental Research with Oncological Applications

Research examining how organs respond to hypoxia and infection provides valuable context for cancer biology, particularly in understanding tumor microenvironments, metabolic adaptation, and systemic responses to disease. Studies like Dr. Yagubova’s help connect foundational pathology with translational oncology, supporting the development of more informed diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
